What is Cystitis?

Cystitis is a commonly occurring condition in women with 10-20% of women experiencing urinary tract infection (UTI) at least once per year. Increased urination, burning pain and lower abdominal pain are common symptoms of UTI. Escherichia coli is the most common cause of UTI and is often as a result of poor urine flow, obstruction, incomplete bladder emptying, faecal contamination and immune dysfunction. Conditions of UTI must be carefully monitored and treated. If symptoms of pain or irritation persists for greater than 48hrs medical attention is warranted.

D-Mannose is a simple sugar that assists in preventing the adhesion of E.coli and other bacteria to the bladder wall. D-Mannose is in cranberry juice but at lower concentrations than the supplemental form.

Garlic and Goldenseal are are effective antimicrobials against pathogens, including E.coli and would be beneficial adjunctives.
